YACReader is a lightweight software application designed specifically for helping you read comic books and magazines in a clean and intuitive working environment.

Intuitive layout and supported file formats

The main panel is kept very clean, so you can focus solely on reading your favorite comic books. The main functions of the program are embedded in the toolbar, so you can easily select them. Plus, when you perform a right-click operation on the current comic book, the utility reveals various options that you can choose from.

You can add files into the working environment using the built-in browse button or drag-and-drop support. The tool works with the following file formats: CBR, CBZ, RAR, ZIP, TAR, PDF, 7Z, CB7, ARJ, and CBT.

It lets you switch to fullscreen mode, activate the double-page viewing mode, zoom in or out to examine the details, as well as use hotkeys for a better control over the entire process.

Reading options

YACReader gives you the possibility to specify the folder where your comic books are stored, go to the previous or next comic book, jump to the next or previous page from the current comic book, access a specific page, rotate the image to different angles, and create bookmarks.

The utility offers support for a built-in dictionary that helps you translate words between various languages, such as English, Spanish, Swedish, Russian, French, German, Greek, Bulgarian and Arabic.

Additional configuration parameters enable you to select the viewing mode for covers (e.g. stripe look, overlapped stripe look), alter the brightness, contrast and gamma levels of the image, as well as save the current page to JPG file format. On the downside, the tool doesn’t let you reassign the hotkeys.

The good thing is that Free Port Scanner runs on low computer resources, but on Windows 7 there are moments when the program is not responding at all, so you need to close it using Task Manager.

Overall, Free Port Scanner is a handy utility to scan ports and hosts, sporting ease of use and accessibility. It determines all available hosts and ports and all the characteristics related to this aspect. Aside from the fact that it sometimes hangs, there’s no other downside or issues that affect its functionality, overall.

As can be seen in the image above, one of the big improvements in version 16 is the automatic building of a recovery partition on the main system drive when DiskImage is installed. Because this is all done automatically there is less chance that you will forget to manually create recovery media when configuring the software and once configured means there will always be a recovery partition to boot into should your PC not boot up as normal for any reason. As such, thanks to the automatic nature of this feature, recovery becomes much simpler in the event that you ever require it.

The other big new feature is the “Disk Image To Go” tool which will automatically detect which external drives are being used by DiskImage and will, in-turn, add the recovery media onto said drives. This approach, along with the above recovery partition, means users will never forget to create recovery media and if PC recovery is ever needed then such recovery media will always be available.

Whilst these two new features might seem small on the surface, I think how they operate actually makes them both very useful additions to DiskImage. The reality is many users of backup software will forget or simply put off making recovery media until it is too late, as such having it made available automatically for you is a simple but very throughout addition the this offering, so far very impressive!
