Use ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) and JDBC (Java Database Connectivity) to read from and write to FileMaker apps hosted by FileMaker Server in conjunction with external programs and development tools. Support up to 50 simultaneous ODBC/JDBC remote connections.

New Features In FileMaker Server 18

Several changes/enhancements have been made to the FileMaker Server Admin Console.

On the Databases page, the status icons for hosted databases have been updated:

The Backups > Backup Schedules tab and the Configuration > Script Schedules  tab now show status information for scheduled scripts that are running, that have succeeded, or that have failed.

While a schedule is running, the Scheduled Time column changes to Running. Immediately after the schedule completes, the column temporarily changes to either Succeeded or Failed to indicate the result. For detailed information about the schedule, review the Event.log messages that have been logged. 

The Configuration > General Settings tab shows when FileMaker Server was last started.

The Configuration > SSL Certificate tab includes a "Delete Files" button that clears the previous certificate request.

The Connectors > FileMaker Data API tab shows aggregate information for all hosts that are sharing a purchase agreement. To verify the data sent from all hosts that share a single purchase agreement see the Total Data Transmitted by All Hosts  information.

The Administrator > External Authentication tab includes Apple Connect as a new OAuth provider.

General enhancements

FileMaker Server includes a FileMaker Server Startup Restoration Feature. At startup, before databases are opened for client access, FileMaker Server validates database entries. If databases have inconsistencies indicating that they were not properly closed, startup restoration uses a restoration log to restore the files to their last consistent state. 

FileMaker Server has been updated to work with Zabbix open-source monitoring software. 

Change the default backup time, which is displayed on the Backups page under  Backups Schedule, by using the CLI command fmsadmin set backuptime

Usage: fmsadmin SET BACKUPTIME [ID] HH:MM

Description: The SET BACKUPTIME command changes the start time of a specified backup schedule when you use the optional ID parameter. If you omit the optional ID parameter, the default backup schedule is changed. Specify the required start time in HH:MM format, where HH is the hours in 24-hour format from 00 to 23 and MM is the minutes from 00 to 59. 

For example, 18:30 means 6:30 PM; 00:15 means 12:15 AM (fifteen minutes after midnight).

Examples: 

fmsadmin SET BACKUPTIME 00:30

fmsadmin SET BACKUPTIME 1 22:00

Change the limit on the number of simultaneous script clients by using the CLI command fmsadmin set serverconfig scriptsessions. 

The following CLI command available in FileMaker Server 17 allows users to set the number of script sessions. The default number has been changed to 100 (previous default was 25).

To change the limit on the number of simultaneous script clients, use the following CLI command:

fmsadmin set serverconfig scriptsessions=number

where number is between 0 and 500.
