Searching for files in Windows Explorer can take a great deal of time. A little utility called Scour will find files on your computer far more quickly. You'll find a simple user interface comprised of a display window, input bars, and a Search button.
Type what you know of the file name, its contents or extension in the input bar at the top left of the interface. Check the '.Net Search Engine' radio button for a search of filenames or the Scour for data using the 'List-Technology' radio button to search the contents of files. Browse to the folder where you expect to find the file using the icon at the left of the address bar, select it and click the 'Search' button.
Almost instantly a list of files incorporating your input details will display in the window, even if you're searching within files. The number of files found displays at top right. Selecting a file in the list will display its details at the bottom of the interface under the main window. This includes name, location, creation, modification and accessed time and date. Double-click the file to open it using the system default application for its file type.
